About Us

Supporting survivors of religious child abuse is crucial, and there are various ways to offer assistance. Here are four ways we help:

DONATE

    1.    Provide Emotional Support:

Be a listening ear and offer empathy to survivors. Allow them to share their experiences without judgment.

Encourage them to seek professional help, such as therapy or counseling, to process and cope with the emotional impact of the abuse.

    2.    Connect with Support Groups:

Help survivors find or connect with support groups specifically tailored to those who have experienced religious child abuse.

Support groups can provide a sense of community, understanding, and shared experiences, fostering healing and validation.

    3.    Raise Awareness and Advocate:

Raise awareness about the issue of religious child abuse to promote understanding and empathy.

Advocate for changes in policies and laws that protect children from abuse within religious institutions.

Support organizations working to address religious child abuse and contribute to their initiatives.

    4.    Encourage Reporting:

Encourage survivors to report instances of abuse to the appropriate authorities, ensuring that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

Provide information on reporting mechanisms and support survivors through the legal process if they choose to pursue legal action.

It's important to approach the topic with sensitivity and respect survivors' autonomy in deciding how they want to seek help and justice.

DAWN BOIANI

Founded ChildSurvivors in 2024

Hey there! I'm Dawn Boiani, a survivor on a mission to break the silence surrounding religious child abuse. I am a survivor of long-term child abuse and neglect from my family of origin. In order to seek solace, I joined a number of religious organizations, firstly the Protestant Church and then Buddhism. I was horrified to discover later that, like the Catholics, my Buddhist tradition has many valid and corroborated reports worldwide of child abuse in their Buddhist monasteries, and we're in the midst of a profound global cover-up.

I think one of the worst hidden crimes in our humanity, is that we have the edifice of trust, exaltation and refuge in a religious organization, only to find how ubiquitous it is, that children are sexually abused, neglected and exploited. I aspire to see this end within my lifetime. In order to do this, we must firstly begin to talk about it, openly and bravely, before we can hope for change.

My mother used to work for the United Nations specifically for UNICEF in a division to bring awareness to young girls and developing countries that experienced mistreatment, abuse, child marriages in child sex trafficking. I aspire to continue her good work. This influence, planted the seeds within me, to be a voice for those whose voices are silenced. I worked for the Colorado State legislature, have been a lobbyist in DC, and for many years I've been a mom activist.

I'm thrilled to welcome you to ChildSurvivors.com, our heart-driven nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about this global issue. Having triumphed over my own adverse experiences, however hard-forged, I'm passionate about being a voice for those whose stories often go unheard. I hope to be a model of hope and our community, and a safe harbor for fellow survivors.

Together, we can make a difference by supporting legal and social healing resources worldwide. Your contribution can empower survivors and bring about positive change. Join us in advocating for these resilient young souls- let's make the world a safer place for every child. We work firstly by providing education and then advocacy and resources both legal and modalities for recovery. Please help us, DONATE TODAY at ChildSurvivors.com! 🌟
